A hike in the fog

We had a great hike today (even though our bus was late, one group were super stars and hiked further than planned, and we couldn't see a thing from the top!). It is one of my favorite days of the year, as I get to know another side of the 4th graders as we hike on our beautiful island. Enjoy the pictures!

At the parking lot, getting ready to head up.

Look at those smiling faces!

Striking a pose!

Cool rocks with lots of moss.

Enjoying the top.

King of the Mountain.

Foggy, but still enjoying each other's company at the top.

Heading down....

Telling scary stories...

Next Week...

This fall our class is so lucky to have many opportunities for outdoor learning. On Tuesday, we will be hiking up Beech Mountain with the 5th Graders. This is a wonderful community building activity and a way for our students to enjoy each other and the park. On Friday, we will be traveling to Sand Beach for another park program, this one focusing on waves.

It is also NWEA testing time. My class will be taking the math portion of the test on Thursday morning.

Text Features!

Today the class went on a scavenger hunt for text features used in nonfiction writing. They used the newspaper to find examples of these text features and then made a poster. These posters are now hanging in the hall, so if you get a chance, take a look!

Boats and Buoys!!

We had fantastic weather yesterday for our field trip to Islesford! The boat ride was beautiful--I always enjoy seeing our Island from a different perspective. While there, students visited the museum and their boats and buoys exhibit, learned about barrel making and learned what island life was like then and now. Here are some pictures from our adventures.
